“Proof,” in the world of printmaking, is a trial print that is created to test the progress of an image. Proof Positive, at the Slater Memorial Museum’s Converse Gallery in Norwich, Connecticut, is a visual affirmation of the collective, creative power of the dedicated members of the Printmakers’ Network of Southern New England (PNSNE).
Proof Positive chronicles over two decades of work by members of PNSNE and will include a wide range of techniques and diverse subject matter associated with contemporary printmaking; processes that revisit traditional techniques as well as new processes. Included in the exhibit will be the group’s latest portfolio, Print Cubed. PNSNE members were challenged to work within a six by eighteen inch format that would eventually be folded and housed in a six by six inch cube. The varied responses to this limited format are proof that each image is as distinct and individual as the artists themselves.
The exhibition runs from November 23, 2014 through January 18, 2015, with an opening reception on Sunday, December 7th from 1:00 to 3:00. PNSNE members will share their expertise with the public on the afternoon of December 13th when they hold a special demonstration day at the Norwich Art School on the Norwich Free Academy campus. Selected printmaking processes, such as lithography, relief printing, intaglio and screen-printing will be included in the presentations.
Slater Memorial Museum at 108 Crescent Street in Norwich, CT (860-887-2506) is open Tuesday – Friday from 9AM – 4PM and Saturday & Sunday from 1PM – 4PM. For more information on the Network or Slater Memorial Museum visit www.printmakersnetwork.org and www.slatermuseum.org.
